My wife and I love wine and food. Well I love food and I enjoy wine. I've always been the guy who wanted to cook for the large group of friends who come into town. I've always been the guy who takes a staple and started to add things to see what I could invent. Today I have goals actually written down about a few things I want to perfect. My golf swing. Being a good father. How to balance spicy and sweet in a steak marinade. I'm not joking.

I've always enjoyed taking things apart and seeing how they work. I like to do the same when I'm eating out. I like to try to figure out what ingredients the Chef used to make the dinner mesh so well together. I think most men who enjoy cooking also enjoy having 'secret' recipes, ingredients, and/or techniques. I have a few. The amount of success I achieve with them is up for debate, but I enjoy having them nonetheless.

I've also started to break down the flavors and techniques brewers and vintners use with wine and beer. My wife and I went to Italy for our honeymoon. While there, we became passionate about the wines in Tuscany and Umbria. After a few years, I've learned a lot but there is still so much more to learn. Some buddies and I have already begun experiencing the joys of beer brewing over at Stabbing Goat. Now it is the grapes turn.

As a firm believer in the 'learn by doing' philosophy, I've dragged my wife along kicking and screaming on this journey. We have decided to make wine. To not only see if we can impart the flavors and textures we love upon the grape but also to gain a new appreciation for the wines we buy and enjoy. In addition, we are going to make some foodstuff/products in our kitchen from my 'secret' stuff and would like to share them as well.

This is quickly becoming a large affair, therefore we do not think we can consume most of the things we make ourselves. Therefore, we are giving most of it away to our friends and family.
